Hire a Vet: Process Oriented

This is part 5 in an 11 part series.

Every Soldier in the Army learns some process in doing their job.  From basic rifle marksmanship to firing tanks and cannons, Soldiers learn “crew drills” that are standardized throughout the service.  In most cases when there has been an accident it has been because someone failed to follow and established process.  The Army even has a process for planning called the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP).

However, as much as there are processes for many things in the Army, there are also many things that Soldiers encounter in their daily lives that don’t fit an established process.  For these situations Soldiers use the MDMP, a process to help Soldiers develop solutions for complicated problems.  They are also taught a process for dealing with less complex problems that require quick decisions.

How Can You Leverage This Experience?

If your organization has established process for doing business, when you hire a Veteran you hire someone who understands the value of using a set process and will embrace it.  Why?  Because most processes in the Army help ensure that Soldiers safely achieve their mission.  You also gain an employee who has been trained how to methodically approach problem solving.
